Hootsuite’s Photo Editor tool has numerous capabilities, including cropping for specific network requirements, extensive filters and focusing options. It’s a great way to ensure your photos are optimized for your feed before they’re posted.

How to open Photo Editor

In the Composer, select an image, and click Edit Image to launch Photo Editor. The menu bar is where you’ll find the main editing categories. Let’s start with Transform.

Transform

One of the most popular uses of the Hootsuite Photo Editor is the aspect ratio feature. By cropping an image by social network requirements, it will look better in the feed and thereby support engagement.

Select a ratio from the list, then move the window over the portion of the image you want to keep. You can also play with the image’s perspective by using the mirror, rotate and alignment tools.

Filters

Once you’re happy with your image’s ratio and alignment, explore the filters. There are many unique filters available here that aren’t on Instagram or other editing apps. For example, Fridge applies cooling blue tones, Texas has a vintage sepia style, Goblin gives your image a green tint, and Glam will increase the contrast. These filters are exclusive to Hootsuite’s Photo Editor and can give your photo a unique look. Select the filter, then use the sliding bar to dial down its intensity.

Adjust

Next, open the Adjust tool. Here you’ll find more familiar settings, like lighting and saturation. Experiment with basic or refined settings. Use the sliding bar to increase or decrease the strength of each effect.

Click Reset Default to wipe your Transform or Adjust edits and start fresh. Or, click the back arrow to undo the last step.

Focus

Another tool that can make your photo stand out is Focus. It draws attention to a specific area of the image by blurring the area around the focus point. Choose a focus style, then drag to adjust size and position. Hootsuite Photo Editor offers more focusing options than Instagram. So if it’s a look that works for your brand, these extra tools are worth exploring.

Text

The last Photo Editor tool is Text. Use this to grab your audience’s attention, and convey a clear message.

To do this, double click the text box and type your message.

Then, use the formatting options to dial in the font, orientation, color, and spacing. Use a font color and style that reflects your brand. Increase the font size and drag and rotate the box to position it.

Finishing

Once you’re happy with your edits, click Save to return to the Composer.

To edit a post that’s already scheduled, go to Planner and select the post you want to edit. Click to open it in the composer and select “Edit Image” to launch the photo editor.
